Postpartum Essentials for Mom: My Picks as a New Mother
Nipple cream is nice, but so is a good bottle of Chardonnay.

Happy Tuesday.
If you look up “postpartum essentials for mom” on Dear Old Google, things like mesh underwear, sturdy maxi pads and nursing bras come up. All essential items indeed, but what I would like to see (and possess) are the postpartum must-haves for mom’s mental wellbeing—in addition to her physical and emotional wellbeing.
Things like a wine subscription service. A meal delivery subscription service. A scheduled rotation of visitors to cure the lonely lulls in the day. A host of new clothing items that will make mothers feel good about themselves as their bodies morph from watermelon to melon to apple, saggy boobs to perky breasts, larger-than-we-want-rump to high-and-tight-booty.
Things that provide new moms the gift of convenient meals, confidence in their appearance and overall, a sense of relaxation.
So, in the name of gift-giving, whether for yourself or a friend, here are my picks for what mom really wants when she’s freshly postpartum. These are also excellent gift ideas for Mother’s Day and baby showers.

A wine subscription service
I just gifted myself this via the platform FirstLeaf, and I can’t wait to receive. They had me take a fun little quiz on what my wine preferences are, including what foods and flavors I fancy.
If you’re gifting a pregnant mommy, you can make them mocktails.
A smoothie maker
New moms (especially nursing moms) need to have healthy and nutritious snacks at the ready. I got a cute little orange smoothie maker when my second child was born, and I looked forward to my smoothie-making ritual every day. Pinterest has a million different recipes for delicious smoothies, and it’s fun to make your own fruit, veggie and protein creations.
A gift card to HATCH
HATCH is hands down the best maternity brand out there. Is she pricey? Yes, the best things in life are. But I am telling you their pregnancy, maternity and postpartum apparel cannot be beat. I wore their dresses and jumpsuits throughout all three of my pregnancies, and everything still looks brand spanking new, nearly a decade later.
A subscription to a clothing rental service like Nuuly
I haven’t utilized a clothing rental service for several years, but I imagine I would love it as a postpartum mom.
Getting dressed during the fourth trimester can be extremely frustrating and disheartening. While you’re no longer pregnant (hallelujah), you still look preggy a few weeks or even months after giving birth, which messes with your mind.
Having a reliable rotation of a few key pieces is a game-changer during that vulnerable time period. When you have clothes that fit and flatter your body, you will look forward to getting dressed—not dread it.
