Life's Short. Let's Act Like It

Roundup of this week's articles

Every Friday, I will send a recap of articles I wrote for the week, just in case you missed em.’

Happy Friday, friends.

It’s been a long week. And I’m very in the mood to give myself a makeover. Do you feel that itch as often as I do? I feel like it comes every season, and if I don’t scratch it (via coloring my hair, buying a cool staple piece, or at least browsing some stores IRL), I snap.

So next week I’m getting my teeth whitened and heading to NYC to meet a friend for brunch — an activity that never fails to lift my mental health spirits.

I have a new way of seizing the day that I thought I’d share with you. And so far, it’s working!

Here it is: Replace all of your have to’s with get to’s — aka instead of waking up, rolling your eyes, and groaning, “Ugh. I have to work today”…tell yourself, “I get to work today. I’m lucky.”

It works for anything and everything.

I get to go to my workout class.

I get to spend time with my son.

I get to work on my craft of writing.

I get to go outside and enjoy the fresh air.

I get to cook a delicious meal tonight.

I get to fill my car up with gas.

I get to listen to my favorite podcast while I do the laundry.

My point

Most of us are privileged. And we shouldn’t feel bad about that, but we should remember not to take it for granted. Give the get to thing a try and let me know how it shakes out.
