Ah, that vacation state of mind.
Happy Wednesday, Luvers.
I’m going to go out on a limb right now and assume every woman reading this is carrying around extra weight she doesn’t want to be carrying. And before a hissy fit ensues, the “weight” I’m talking about here is everything from the mental load of parenting to work stress and sure, physical body weight if that is something extra you’re carrying around that’s bothering you.
As humans, and especially as ladies, we tend to overthink, overanalyze, and over-dramatize. It’s not our fault, though. The female brain is designed to multi-task and take on a lot because we are, at our core, natural givers of life who can’t help but give into the pull of taking care of others. LUCKY US.
This is something I learned of course from a podcast — an invigorating interview with Dr. Daniel Amen, celebrity psychiatrist and brilliant gentleman on all things brain health.
After listening to him speak on the stark differences between male and female brains, it became a lot clearer as to why the two species conflict with one another.
Most importantly though, I learned that we hold the power to completely change the way our brains operate.
The major takeaways from his 40 years of brain scan intelligence?
Love your brain. Before you do anything, ask yourself, “Is this good for my brain or bad for my brain?” Things that are terrible for your brain health are sugar, alcohol, and not flossing your teeth — the unhealthy gums to heart disease correlation is oddly very strong.
Avoid anything that hurts your brain. Any addiction = sadness because it wears out the pleasure centers of your brain (fame, smoking, alcohol, scrolling, high fat, high sugar, too much TV). These things DUMP dopamine, and what we’re looking for is a dopamine DRIP — like a meaningful conversation with a friend.
The brain does what you train it to do. Sleeping well every night, exercising each morning, seeking out the positives in your day instead of the negatives, laughing.
After taking a look at the bad habits I had brought into the summer months (snacking well after dinner whilst watching Netflix, having an extra glass of wine when I should have had water), I decided to embark on a new lifestyle journey of the Meat Diet. The goal? To gain more energy, experience less grogginess during the day, achieve better sleep, and overall feel lighter.
It’s basically the keto diet with fruit. So, very low carb with healthy fats. Trust me, it’s filling, delicious, and will make you feel Capital E Excellent. And it’s really not hard to stick to at all. I pretty much cut out bread, peanut butter, and sugar.
After only four days of adhering to the Meat Diet — a diet that consists of meat, cheese, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and dark chocolate — this is what I noticed:
The whites of my eyes are whiter.
The blues of my eyes are bluer. Like so blue they almost look fake.
My face is visibly more sculpted. The bread and processed snacks I was eating beforehand were unknowingly making my face swell. EW.
My face is also much clearer and smoother. Yum.
My entire body feels lighter.
My energy is on FLEEK.
I am more willing to actually play with my children instead of watching them play.
My mood is happier, less tense. and more upbeat.
